Henry Potts of Rowan County, North Carolina

FIRST GENERATION

1. Henry POTTS died in 1775 in Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina. Henry lived on Fourth Creek in Rowan County, North Carolina, about a mile above Moses Potts, and four or five viles from the present town of Statesville. This section was afterwards included in Iredell County. He was probably a farmer, and was evidently a near relative of Moses and John Potts. His wife's name was Margaret. He died in 1775. His will recorded in Will-Book A. page 147, at Salisbury, was made January 18, 1775, and proven May, 1775. He names his wife Margaret and children, James, William, Henry, Margaret, Mary and Sarah. Moses Potts was a subscribing witness. TMP page 376

He was married to Margaret. Henry POTTS and Margaret had the following children:

2 i. James POTTS. He is said to have removed to Tennessee and raised a family. One James Potts, of Williamson County, Tennessee, probably the same, was pensioned March 14, 1831. His age is given as 77 years. It is also stated that he served in the North Carolina Line. TMP page 376

4 iii. Henry POTTS was born in Iredell County, North Carolina. He is said to have settled in Ohio and died unm.

5 iv. Margaret POTTS. Perhaps she married Stephen Potts. See p. 373 - descendant of Moses Potts

6 v. Mary POTTS was born in Iredell County, North Carolina.

7 vi. Sarah POTTS was born in Iredell County, North Carolina.

SECOND GENERATION

3. William POTTS was born in Iredell County, North Carolina. He died in Nicholas County, Kentucky.. About the year 1795, he removed with his family from Iredell County, North Carolina to Nicholas County, Kentucky. Here he and each of his sons acquired considerable estates. TMP page 376

He was married to Margaret PURVIANCE. William POTTS and Margaret PURVIANCE had the following children:

THIRD GENERATION

9. Henry T. POTTS was born on Sep 6 1790 in Iredell County, North Carolina. He spent most of his life near Carlisle, Nicholas County, Kentucky. Some of the children removed to Boone County, Indiana and some to Boone County, Missouri, others remained in Nicholas County, Kentucky. TMP page 377

He was married to Sarah ARCHER. Henry T. POTTS and Sarah ARCHER had the following children:

14 i. John Archer POTTS died about 1867 in Boone County, Indiana.

He was married to Izza HAZELRIGG.

He was married to Liza HARNEY. Henry T. POTTS and Liza HARNEY had the following children:

He was married to Lorana ALEXANDER. Henry T. POTTS and Lorana ALEXANDER had the following children:

17 i. Jesse B. POTTS was born in Carlisle, Nicholas County, Kentucky. He married and had children.

18 ii. Robert H. POTTS was born in Carlisle, Nicholas County, Kentucky. He married and had children.

21 v. Tilford T. POTTS was born in Carlisle, Nicholas County, Kentucky. He died.

22 vi. Charles B. POTTS was born in Carlisle, Nicholas County, Kentucky.

23 vii. Garret D. POTTS was born in Carlisle, Nicholas County, Kentucky.

24 viii. Sarah A. POTTS was born in Carlisle, Nicholas County, Kentucky.

25 ix. N. Franklin POTTS was born in Carlisle, Nicholas County, Kentucky.

He was married to Jane RITCHIE. James POTTS and Jane RITCHIE had the following children:
