The State of Ohio enacted a law requiring births and deaths be recorded beginning in 1867. In the early years these were usually given to the tax collector as he made his yearly rounds. The records were kept by the Probate Court. Later the notice was given by a doctor, mid-wife or a parent.

Volume one of the Marion County Ohio death records was copied at The Marion Public Library from microfilm.

Microfilm is often quite hard to read but I tried to copy names as they appeared and as I could read them. Spelling is not always correct; however, I tried to spell things as they were written.

All the information on the death record is given here except the occupation and who reported the death. I felt the other information was more important than occupation so chose to use it.

I trust the enclosed is of help.
