RICHARD INGMIRE A 16 year old Harding High School Junior and outstanding member of the cross country squad was killed early today when his automobile smashed into a tree east of Marion on U.S. Route 30-S.

Richard Ingmire, son of Mrs. Norma Ingmire of 170 Hudson Ct., died almost immediately of injuries suffered in the accident which occurred at 12:50 a.m.

A passenger, Gene Brake, 17; also a member of the Harding cross country squad, was injured and was taken to Marion General Hospital. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Brake of 238 Johnson St.

FAILED TO MAKE CURVE

Failing to negotiate a sharp cure to the left approximately a mile and a half east of the Marion corporation line, Ingmire's westbound 1948 model car swerved into the eastbound lane and narrowly missed an oncoming Sheriff's Department patrol car.

It then cut back across the westbound land and skidded off the pavement and into a large tree just east of a railroad switch track leading into the Marion Engineer Depot, the sheriff's deputy said.

The Sheriff's car headed back to the accident. Boyd's ambulance was called but Ingmire was dead when it arrived, the deputy said. His body was pinned in wreckage and could not be reached until a wrecker pulled the door open. According to the sheriff's department, he had sustained head an chest injuries.

BRAKE TAKEN TO HOSPITAL

Brake was taken to the Hospital in the Sheriff's department car. A hospital spokesman said today he was in fairly good condition with head and leg injuries.

Both youths were scheduled to travel with the cross country squad this afternoon to Bowling Green for a Northwest District cross country meet. Ingmire, in his first year on Harding's squad, was considered one of the school's best runners in many years.

His was the 17th death in Marion County in 1956. The last previous fatality occurred Sept. 17.

CLARA JANE MASON, second child in a family of three children of David and Lucinda Gray; was born February 23, 1862, and departed this live October 25, 1909, at the age of forty-seven years, eight months and two days. She was the last of the family, her infant brother Amos, dying April 1, 1866; her father, September 1, 1904. Thus, this family has become extinct. She was united in marriage with Elmer E. Mason, March 26, 1884, and his kindly deposition was always a solace to her. She leaves to mourn their loss, a kind and affectionate husband, together with a host of relatives and neighbors. In her school days, she became afflicted with rheumatism, which blighted her health, and withered the joys of life to the day of her death. Conscious of her afflictions, though patient as the stars. Genteel around the fireside of her home, where grow and bloom the virtues of our race. She was intelligent, sociable, grand. In short, the fruit of this great world's endeavor. Thus, this frail and modest women, is taken from our midst, by that great destroyer, death, and we bow our heads in submission of feeling that the sweet memories of life's voyage will come back to us like poems of consolation. So we can for a little while in our minds live the life over and now, after a life of patient suffering, we sincerely hope that this dear friend will find in death, all there is of worth in life.

JOHN MCELVY, one of the best know citizen of Marion County, died suddenly at his home in Meeker, Sunday forenoon at 9:50 o'clock, of apoplexy. He was born in Salt Rock Township December 16, 1827, and had been a life resident of that vicinity. April 10, 1851, he was united in marriage to Miss. Elsie Hopkins. Until nine years since they had resided on their farm in sight of the little hamlet of Meeker. After retiring from active duties, they moved into the hamlet and resided in one of the handsome residence properties for which Meeker is noted. Mr. McElvy was a man of great energy and a power in behalf of stalwart citizenship. He acquired a number of splendid farms by his industry and right methods of living. For many years he hd been sorely afflicted with rheumatism, but physical ills could only distress him, for he kept in constant touch with all the events of human progress and until the last he maintained an attitude of cheerfulness that so throughly proved the kind and considerate disposition for which he was known to possess by a great multitude of intimate friends. His life was full of accomplishments, not only so far as it relates to his splendid success in material things, but in the worthy deed he accomplished and the excellent traits of his everyday citizenship. In his death he had attained a fine old age, his departure to higher greater reward only serves to add additional splendor to his honored name and to remind the living that a truly great man has succumbed to pay the tribute of the exacts of all living subjects. Mr. McElvy had been a member of the Union Church for a period of more than half a century, a religious institution which his parents had assisted in establishing far back in the pioneer days of that vicinity.

ALICE MARION MEARS She was born in Scott County, Iowa and after the death of her father she with her mother removed to Ohio during the year of 1873 and was united marriage with Bro. Mears October 19, 1880. This was a pleasant happy union. To them were born one son and one daughter. The little boy preceded the mother to that home above, dying May 17, 1894, of that dreaded disease, Diphtheria. She was a good woman, of excellent Christian character and life and with her husband united with the Presbyterian Church May 1890. They also had the pleasure of attending the Cochranton M. E. Church and participating in all the religious work of that church. The solemn funeral service was held at the Cochranton M. E. Church. Friday last, Rev. Sutton officiating, assisted by Rev. Kennedy. A very large and deeply affected audience was present. The first to gather about the beautiful casket were eleven little boys, her Sunday School Class, who tenderly place lovely flowers above the stilled heart which had loved them so kindly and well. Then came the M. E. Ladies Aid Society of which she had been a worthy member. Their grief was sincere and better and other beautiful floral offerings served as a tender reminder of their love. Following them the vast audience with her who, when living, they had loved so well. The weeping husband and lonely daughter desired to thus extend their thanks to all those who in any way contributed to their comfort or mitigated their grief during this their deepest affliction. May Heaven's blessings attend them all.

HARRIET METZ, one of the very aged citizens passed away in death twenty minutes after twelve March 22, 1911. She was born in Marion County in the year 1825 August 8th. The greater part of her life was spent in and near Scott Town. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter VanHouten and is the last of the family of eight children. The husband and father passed away since which time she has made her home with her children. Three of her children also had preceded her in death, Mrs. J. Metz, Mary Miller and Peter Metz. The members of family now living are Leonard Metz of DeCliff, Mrs. Barbara Parish of Marion, David Metz who resides on the old farm, Mrs. Olive Walters of Marion, Henry H. Metz who lives in the old home.

Mrs Metz was a Christian of forty years testing. She was converted in the old church at Scott Town where she united in fellowship, removing her membership to LaRue after the death of her husband when she went to make her home with her daughter Olive. About four years ago she came to Marion to end her days with the daughters. Age was noticeably telling on her. About the time of her beginning to break completely down. There was no complaining or doubting.

Although she made a effort to live her death came in great peace. A very short time before death came to relieve her of life she was taken to the home of Mrs. Barbara Parish where she slept in death.

Thirty-two grandchildren were born, and twenty great-grandchildren of which twenty-seven grandchildren and twenty three great-grandchildren survive her. It is not alone this large family that will miss this aged Christian mother, but during all these years she has been gathering about her a host of friends. Many are the beautiful tributes of praise that are woven into sentiment about the character of this aged saint more sweet and endearing than the flower wreaths that bedecked her casket.

When the Rev. Cammon led this, young women to the Lord the Heavenly father alone could for tell the years of blessed service she was to render to him to whom she gave herself. Her children and friends shall rise up and call her blessed but the multitude of those her life had touched already on the Golden shore have bid her welcome to her father's home. Aged 95 years, 7 months, and 14 days.

GREEN GROVE MILLER Two roughly dressed, Negro bandits who early last night murdered Green Grove Miller, 73, during a holdup of his General Store at DeCliff were the objects of an intensive search of posses of authorities and citizen today.

One of the two bandits fired a revolver shot into Miller's chest when he refused to obey commands to put up his hands, authorities were told last night by Edward Schmidt, a resident of DeCliff, the only witness of the murder.

100 POSSES

More than 100 persons formed volunteer posses this morning to continue the search which last night lasted until past midnight. Headed by county, city and railroad officers, the posses searched every barn, shed and abandoned residence within miles of DeCliff, scoured the woodlands, and every possible place where the Negroes might have taken refuge.

Miller and Schmidt were the only persons in the store when the Negroes entered, shortly after 6 p.m. yesterday, Schmidt told authorities. Miller was behind the counter near the front of the store, and Schmidt was nearby. They paid little attention to the pair as they entered.

Schmidt told Deputy Sheriff M. E. Baldwin that he suddenly felt a revolver pressed against his back and heard the taller of the two Negroes said, "Its a stickup Put'em up."

"I don't know whether I will or not, Schmidt replied," on second thought, however, I decided to put up my hands," he told authorities after the holdup.

MILLER IGNORES ORDER

Leaving his smaller companion to guard Schmidt, the tall Negro then accosted Miller, who had started walking toward the rear of the store. Miller ignored the bandit's commands and continued toward a rear room. As he was about to pass through the door, the Negro shot, and Schmidt said the light was bad at best.

Authorities were unable to learn what caused Miller to ignore the bandits commands. The victim was slightly deaf, and was at first thought to have been unaware of the fact that his store was being held up. While he might not have caught the words of the Negroes, authorities and relatives decided this morning. The opinion was expressed that Miller was going to the rear room either to escape through the back door or to arm himself to resist the holdup.

The tall Negro fired five shots, one striking Miller, another went through his cap, and the others struck the walls of the store. As he shot, the Negro cried, "Do your stuff," Schmidt said.

SCHMIDT STRIKES ONE

Before the smaller Negro had an opportunity to obey his companion's orders, Schmidt turned quickly and floored the bandit with his fist, he said Schmidt then ran from the store to Miller's home to obtain a gun and assistance. When he and companions returned to the store, the Negroes had disappeared.

Schmidt was the only person to see the Negroes as far as Sheriff C. C. Frye could learn. He last saw the small Negro running to the east, but did not see the tall bandit escape. Neither obtained any loot from the store.

Authorities were called immediately, and an intensive hunt was begun at once. Roads in the vicinity were patrolled, and posses on foot searched the countryside thoroughly, but no traces of the men could be found.

Schmidt told authorities that the murderer used a nickel plated revolver. After examining one of the bullets which ricocheted from the walls, authorities said a .38 caliber firearm had been used, since none of the empty cartridges could be found, it was certain that a revolver had been used. An automatic pistol would have ejected the empty shells, officers explained.

Many of Miller's friends were among the volunteers to join the posses last night and this morning. Miller was well known in the vicinity of DeCliff, having operated a general store in the village for 36 years. He was born there and always lived in that community.

BOTH ABOUT 30

Schmidt described the tall Negro as being five feet eight inches in height and rather lanky. His companion was several inches shorter, and rather stocky in build. Both wore overalls and caps and appeared to be 30 years of age. Only the tall one was armed. It is believed that they went to the store after dropping from a freight train as it passed the village. DeCliff has a population of 100.

City and County authorities in this section of the state were furnished descriptions of the Negroes and urged to be on the lookout. When he was given a description of the men, Police Chief O.D. Sheldon of Kenton expressed the belief that the two were the same colored bandits who Thursday night held up the Charles Fitzpatrick Grocery on South Main Street in that City and escaped with $18. He said the Kenton bandits were described as being 30 years of age, one rather tall and the other stocky. One wore overalls in that holdup, while the other was dressed in a dark suit.

Relatives of Miller recalled that his cousin, George Miller, was murdered near DeCliff more than 25 years ago after a quarrel with Jerry Sims. Sims was tried for the murder and acquitted.

Mr. and Mrs. Miller celebrated their golden wedding anniversary December 20, at their home in DeCliff.

SEEN NEAR LARUE

Two colored men answering the description of the two hunted for in the murder of Miller were seen walking along the railroad tracks north of LaRue yesterday.

Two colored men were arrested on South Prospect Street last night by police. The police took them to the station and quizzed them, they convinced authorities that they were "floaters," one giving his address as Indianapolis, the other a Columbus address.

Officers arrested a colored man in Upper Sandusky this morning on the request of Hardin County authorities. He will be quizzed for possible connection with the murder. He told Upper Sandusky officers he spend last night in Lima.
