REST IN PEACE

Marie Anderson glorified Christ by being herself, sharing her life with Lewis, family and friends. We of the Senior Citizen Group, looked forward to them coming each month, she wanted everything to be pretty, pleasant and entertaining. This philosophy led her through her life talking with people, writing letters and sharing her flowers which she loved, and making people happy. In her youth she was called "Scottown's Sweetheart". We have had many a laugh and chuckle over the amusing things she would say. Marie was so unique in so many ways -- she was her own person, none just like her. We are all richer for having known and loved her.

ISAAC BAKER - October 2, 1905 Mr. Baker was on his way home in a wagon and was crossing the Pennsylvania Tracks this morning when he was struck by the Train.

Isaac Baker, aged thirty years, a farmer, residing northwest of the city on the Henry True farm, was struck by southbound, No. 475 at a crossing near the Central Ohio Stone and Lime Company's Plant and fatally hurt, this morning at 10 o'clock.

Baker was on his way home when the accident happened. Conductor W.R. Masters of Columbus states that his engineer blew his whistle several times, but Baker did not seem to notice it and drove directly upon the track. The rain was falling and Baker set in his wagon with his head down as if to protect himself as much as possible from the train.

When the engine plowed into the wagon Baker was hurled about twenty feet to one side. One of the horses was badly hurt that it was shot by the Conductor Masters. The wagon was wrecked.

The trainman placed the injured man on a flat car and brought him to the Silver St. crossing of the Erie, where a telephone call sent in for Hess & Kirdendall's ambulance. He was removed to the City Hospital, where it developed that his ribs had been crushed and was hurt materially.

Besides being crushed about the ribs and chest, Baker suffered two fractures of the skull, it being necessary in removing the bone to take out a portion of the brain. Dr. A. Rhu performed the operation.

October 3, 1905

With tear-dimmed eyes and aching heart a little women sat in the lobby of the City Hospital all of Monday afternoon and late into the night. Every footstep on the stairway leading to the sick rooms above caused her to turn and look anxiously toward the door. She was waiting for some word that her husband, Isaac Baker, who was struck by a south bound Pennsylvania freight train, Monday morning, had regained consciousness. But her hopes were never realized, for he died at 11 o'clock Monday night without return to consciousness.

From the time the injured man was brought into the hospital little hope was entertained for this recovery. In two places the skull had been broken and crushed into the brain. Dr. A. Rhu, physician and surgeon for the Pennsylvania Railroad together with the assistance of the entire hospital corps, quickly had the man stripped and on the operating; table. The broken skull was taken from the brain and with apportion of the brain. "He had. one chance out of a thousand," the surgeon said when it was all over. Up until 9 o"clock Monday night Baker's pales and temperature were favorable, when there was a sudden change and he slowly sank into death.

Isaac Baker was a hard-working, honest, upright young men, well liked by everybody. Besides his wife he leaves four children: Marie, Serg, Leone, and Simon, the last being a baby. He is also survived by his mother, four brothers and seven sisters. The brothers are George Baker of Agosta, Sebastian Baker of Marseilles, Simon Baker of Big Island, and James Baker of Leipsic and the sisters are Mrs. Lafayette Morl of Michigan; Mrs. Elmer Bader, Mrs Frank Cluff, Mrs. Eugene Briggs, and Mrs. Elden Kincaid of near the city.

They lived happily together, each helpful to the other and both helpful to the church and community until death so abruptly, summoned her to her sure and just reward. This union was blessed with two children one of which Bernice Evaline, lived just one week and then on the same day of its mother's death, took its flight to the spirit world. The other, a little girl a little less then three years of age remains as a comfort and a care to the bereaved father and grandparents.

When about 13 years of age Mrs. Cheney was happily converted to God and lived a faithful Christian life. During her last illness, she left unmistakable evidence of her acceptance with God. She was a regular attendant at Sunday School at Scott Town and taught the young ladies class where her efforts were greatly appreciated. With sad hearts and bitter tears did her class take leave of the lifeless remains of their faithful teacher. ISAAC CLARK The numerous friends and acquaintances of Isaac Clark, of Scott Town, were shocked Monday evening by the announcement of his sudden death at Buffalo, N.Y. which was given exclusively to the Star.

Mr. Clark arrived in Buffalo some time during Sunday and that evening retired in a room at Tucker's Hotel, and nothing is known of him from that time until he was found dead Monday morning. An examination of the remains was made by coroner of Buffalo and Mr. Clark's death was found to have been due to heart disease. Letters were found in Mr. Clark's pocket which were addressed to him at LaRue, and also his check books & receipts were dated Marion, Ohio. These established the identity of the dead man, and the coroner at once telegraphed the Deposit Bank at this city, with the information that the news be sent to the deceased's relatives. This sad intelligence was communicated to Mrs. Clark at her home, and in the evening Elmer Kerr and Samuel Dodds came to Marion and from here left for Buffalo. It was their intention to look after the remains and complete the business that was left unfinished by Mr. Clark when he was so suddenly overtaken by death.

The deceased was 57 years of age and leaves a wife but no children. He was so generally and favorable known, not only in his immediate neighborhood but almost over the entire county, that his death comes as quite a shock. Mr. Clark was a thoroughly energetic business man, decidedly well-to-do, and it is sufficient to say that he will be greatly missed, not only in his afflicted home but by the community that knew him best.

The remains of Isaac Clark, who died at Buffalo, N.Y. Sunday night, arrived here Wednesday on the Big Four train 17, accompanied by Samuel Dodd, Elmer Kerr, M. C. Davis and H. V. Smith. The later two gentleman left with Mr. Clark last Saturday, with stock, but became separated from him in Cleveland. On reaching the Forest City the stock train was very late, and Mr. Clark stated to his companions that he must be in Buffalo Monday morning, and in order to reach there at there that he decided to take a passenger train and left Davis and Smith to accompany the stock. That was the last he seen alive by these gentlemen. Mr. Clark arrived in Buffalo Sunday evening at 9 o'clock, and going to the Tucker Hotel ordered a warm room, stating that he was not feeling well, and he retired at once, and this was the last known of him until Monday at 11 o'clock when he was found dead.

In the meantime Davis and Smith had arrived in Buffalo with the stock and followed Clark's suggestions in disposing of it. Clark had told them at what Hotel to look for him, but for some reason he had gone to the Tucker House instead and they were unable to locate him. They then went to Niagara Falls, as had been their intention originally, and not until their return were they aware of Mr. Clark's death.

The remains of Mr. Clark were conveyed from here to his late home near Scott Town today. The funeral services will occur Thursday afternoon at 2 o' clock from the house.
